{"id":300282,"date":"2018-07-11T13:00:38","date_gmt":"2018-07-11T13:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=300282"},"modified":"2018-07-11T13:00:38","modified_gmt":"2018-07-11T13:00:38","slug":"india-becomes-worlds-sixth-largest-economy-surpasses-france","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/india-becomes-worlds-sixth-largest-economy-surpasses-france\/","title":{"rendered":"India becomes world&#8217;s sixth largest economy, surpasses France"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-299664 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/india-1-247x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"247\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/06\/india-1-247x300.jpg 247w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/06\/india-1.jpg 314w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 247px) 100vw, 247px\" \/>India became the world&#8217;s sixth largest economy overtaking France according to World Bank data on a gross domestic product (GDP) of countries for 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">According to revelations United States has topped the list recording a GDP of $ 19,390,604 million, followed by China, Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">World Bank report said: &#8220;India&#8217;s gross domestic product (GDP) amounted to $2.597 trillion at the end of last year, against $2.582 trillion for France&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;India has doubled its GDP within a decade and is expected to power ahead as a key economic engine in Asia, even as China slows down,&#8221; said the report.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">According to the report, the main drivers pushing Indian economic growth are manufacturing and consumer spending.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">With the growth forecast of 7.3% in 2018-19, India has been termed the world\u2019s fastest-growing major emerging economy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The World Bank has even forecast that the Indian economy will grow at the pace of 7.5% for 2019-20 and the subsequent year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">According to the International Monetary Fund, India is projected to generate growth of 7.4 per cent in 2018 and 7.8 per cent in 2019, boosted by household spending and a tax reform.
