Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on July 1 that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will accelerate its campaign for demanding statehood for Delhi. He added that the AAP will submit 10 lakh letters from the residents of Delhi to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi under a signature campaign titled \u201cDelhi Mange Apna Haq\u201d, demanding full statehood while addressing a gathering of party workers at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not an unconstitutional demand. The constitution says the Centre should appoint Lieutenant General, it does not say that the elected government cannot propose a name,\u201d Kejriwal said.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the launch of his campaign demanding statehood for Delhi Kejriwal said: \u201cPrime Minister Narendra Modi, during his campaign for the 2014 Lok Sabha election, had promised full statehood for Delhi and won seven Lok Sabha seats. He still has a year to go, if he does not work towards full statehood, Delhi will not give the BJP even one seat in the 2019 election.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

While seeking the support of all political parties he said, “It\u2019s not just AAP\u2019s fight … All parties should come together to support this demand. We will convene an all-party meeting soon to seek support.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
