{"id":287069,"date":"2018-05-24T12:01:48","date_gmt":"2018-05-24T06:31:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tehelka.com\/?p=287069"},"modified":"2018-05-24T12:01:48","modified_gmt":"2018-05-24T06:31:48","slug":"us-issues-health-alert-in-china-after-employee-suffers-possible-sonic-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/us-issues-health-alert-in-china-after-employee-suffers-possible-sonic-attack\/","title":{"rendered":"US issues health alert in China after employee suffers possible sonic attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/us-china.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-242441 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/us-china-300x228.jpg\" alt=\"us china\" width=\"300\" height=\"228\" data-id=\"242441\" \/><\/a>The U.S. Embassy in China issued a health alert on May 23 after a U.S. government employee experienced a possible sonic attack and later suffered a suffered a mild traumatic brain injury.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In an alert emailed to U.S. citizens in China, the Embassy said it does not know what caused the symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration is taking these reports seriously and have taken up the matter with Chinese officials.<br \/>\n\u201cA US State Department government employee in China recently reported subtle and vague, but abnormal sensations of sound and pressure,\u201d the U.S. Embassy in China said.<br \/>\n\u201cWe do not currently know what caused the reported symptoms and we are not aware of any similar situations in China, either inside or outside of the diplomatic community,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the reports, the U.S. and Chinese authorities are investigating the matter.<br \/>\nThe employee, who was assigned to the southern city of Guangzhou, was diagnosed with mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI), said Embassy spokeswoman Jinnie Lee.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt\u2019s a serious medical incident. We want to make sure and take care of every one of our officers serving overseas.
