{"id":286194,"date":"2018-04-10T12:43:50","date_gmt":"2018-04-10T07:13:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tehelka.com\/?p=286194"},"modified":"2018-04-10T12:43:50","modified_gmt":"2018-04-10T07:13:50","slug":"30-killed-including-27-children-as-school-bus-falls-into-gorge-in-himachal-pradesh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/30-killed-including-27-children-as-school-bus-falls-into-gorge-in-himachal-pradesh\/","title":{"rendered":"30 killed including 27 children as school bus falls into gorge in Himachal Pradesh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/himachal-bus-accident.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-286195 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/himachal-bus-accident-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"himachal bus accident\" width=\"335\" height=\"251\" data-id=\"286195\" \/><\/a>Around 30 people, including 27 school children,\u00a0two teachers, and a driver were killed on April 9 after a private school bus skidded off the road and fell down into a gorge in Nurpur area of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Twelve injured passengers,\u00a0who were rushed to the hospital are reported to be in critical condition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to a senior police officer the bus rolled into a 20ft-deep gorge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;The bus rolled into a 200ft-deep gorge, killing 27 schoolchildren, two teachers and the driver,&#8221; said Santosh Patyal, a senior local police official.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;My first priority was to save lives. We will now investigate the reasons for the accident,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Most of the students were said to be\u00a0at the age of 10 to 12 years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The incident happened when around 45 students of\u00a0Wazir Ram Singh Pathania Memorial Public School were returning home.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Local administration teams and the National\u00a0Disaster Response Force were involved in the rescue operations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A magisterial inquiry has been ordered.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Many political leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, Governor Acharya Devvrat and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda have condoled the deaths.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;I am deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to a bus accident in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh.
