The annual event that celebrates art, folk roots and music commenced from February 10 at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/0U9A1846-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-285173 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/0U9A1846-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"0U9A1846 (1)\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" data-id=\"285173\" \/><\/a>Curated by Alka Pande and organised by Delhi-based Phulkari revivalists Harinder Singh and Kirandeep Kaur, Mela Phulkari is a movement that celebrates and unifies the art, craft and culture of Punjab in its true essence and spirit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, Australian and French high commissioner, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, singer Rabbi Shergill, legendary folk singer Gurmeet Bawa, Lachi and Glory, artist Arpana Caur attended the event.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The other highlights of the show were the \u2018Sardars of Sangrur\u2019 and a folk artiste group that played 21 traditional Punjabi instruments.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFor the fifth edition, I thought it would be most apt to play with the symbology of Number 5. Five has multiple meanings, connotations and references beginning with the name of the state itself, Punjab, the land of five; panj pyaras \u2014 the five loved ones; panchranga \u2014 five colours; panchtattvas \u2014 the five elements,\u201d Alka Pande points out.<br \/>\nThe show will be on at the Open Palm Gallery, IHC till February 19.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mela Phulkari is back with its fifth edition which is centred around Panj Pyaras.
