FMCG arm RCPL enters crowded ice cream market with “accessible premium” dairy brand, initially in Western India.

Mumbai, 2 September 2026 — Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL), the FMCG arm of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries, has entered India’s ice cream market with a new brand, Bombay Creamery, priced from as low as ₹10.
Positioned as an “accessible premium” dairy ice cream, Bombay Creamery will be sold in formats including cones, cups, tubs, bars and sticks, all made with real dairy cream.
“Dairy shouldn’t need shortcuts,” said T. Krishnakumar, Director at RCPL. “We want to give the genuine taste of a real ice cream at a price every Indian family can afford.”
Launch and rollout
Bombay Creamery was officially launched on 1 September 2026 and will initially be available in Western India. RCPL plans to use Reliance’s pan-India retail and distribution network to expand the brand across the country.
The company says the brand is part of its long-term strategy to build everyday consumer products that combine “global quality” with mass-market affordability, similar to its approach with Campa Cola.
Entering a crowded market
With Bombay Creamery, Reliance is taking on established players like Amul, Mother Dairy and Kwality Wall’s, as well as a growing set of premium and health-focused ice cream brands.
Industry analysts see this as a natural extension of Reliance’s FMCG push. The ₹10 entry price and emphasis on authentic dairy ingredients mirror the group’s playbook of using scale, distribution strength and aggressive pricing to gain market share.
The timing—just ahead of the festive season—also points to a push on impulse purchases, especially among families and young consumers in urban and semi-urban markets.
Product range
According to RCPL, Bombay Creamery’s portfolio includes:
- Cones and cups for single-serve, on-the-go consumption
- Tubs for home and family use
- Bars and sticks as affordable impulse buys, with some variants at ₹10 [business-standard:1]
All products are being marketed as made with authentic dairy ingredients, focusing on the taste and texture of traditional dairy-based ice creams.
While Reliance has not shared detailed financial targets for Bombay Creamery, the key test will be how the brand performs against entrenched dairy cooperatives and multinational FMCG companies in the coming months.
