Rape survivor, set ablaze by 5 men in UP’s Unnao, critical

The rape survivor from Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao, who was airlifted to Delhi and admitted to the Safdarjung Hospital for medical treatment, is critical and has been put on ventilator, sources said.

She suffered 90 per cent burns after five men, including the rape accused, allegedly set her on fire yesterday.

The woman was on her way to the railway station to catch a train to Rae Bareli for a court hearing in the rape case. She was stopped by the accused. They first hit her with a stick and then attacked her with a knife. After that they poured petrol and set her on fire, the woman told police.

All the five men were arrested after the incident.

The woman was allegedly raped few months ago and had filed a complaint in March this year. The accused was arrested and later had been granted bail, police said.
