Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday flew in the Tejas fighter aircraft from the HAL airport in Bengaluru.
He became the first defence minister to fly in the indigenously Light Combat Aircraft (LCA).
Tejas is a light combat aircraft developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL).
In a tweet, Singh said, “All Set For The Day!”
The Defence Minister took off for a 30-minute sortie. He was accompanied by Air Vice Marshal N Tiwari
Singh termed his flight “exhilarating” and “amazing”.
“Flying on ‘Tejas’, an Indigenous Light Combat Aircraft from Bengaluru’s HAL Airport was an amazing and exhilarating experience. Tejas is a multi-role fighter with several critical capabilities. It is meant to strengthen India’s air defence capabilities,” Rajnath said.
Singh said, he would also be attending certain programmes in Bengaluru.
“Leaving New Delhi for a two day visit to Bengaluru. Shall attend certain programmes organised by @HALHQBLR & @DRDO_India. Look forward it,” he had tweeted on Thursday.
