A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker in Rajasthan was killed in broad daylight on Saturday, triggering panic in the area ahead of upcoming assembly elections.
The incident took place in a village, four kilometers from the town of Pratapgarh in southern Rajasthan where the deceased, Samarth Kumawat, was shot at indiscriminately by bike-borne assailants and then they slit his throat with a sword.
Samarth died on the spot and the assailants escaped soon after attacking the BJP worker.
Locals sat in protest with Kumawat’s body and demanded the arrest of the attackers at the earliest.
Police have assured that action will be taken and the goons will be arrested soon.
Samarth’s kin registered an FIR against the accused. According to them, several goons had been threatening Samarth.
Congress leader Ashok Gehlot condemned the murder and said that the perpetrators should be severely punished.
“I condemn the brutal killing of BJP’s Sh. Samrath Kumawat in #Pratapgarh, #Rajasthan. Perpetrators of such heinous crime must be severely punished. Pathetic condition of Law n order in state is a matter of grave concern,” Gehlot tweeted.
