Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi have been allowed to visit Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras to meet the family of the gang-rape victim., along with three others.
This was the Gandhis’ second attempt to meet the victim’s family. Their first attempt ended with a scuffle with the police and brief detention on Thursday.
“Nothing in the world can stop me from going to Hathras to meet this unhappy family to share their pain,” Rahul tweeted today morning.
On October 1, Rahul and Priyanka started their foot-march on the highway after their convoy en route to Hathras gangrape victim’s residence was stopped at the Yamuna Expressway. They were taken into preventive custody after a faceoff with UP Police. Rahul alleged that he was pushed to the ground and lathi-charged by police. Later they were released and were escorted back to Delhi.
