Niranjan Singh, the Deputy Director in the Enforcement Directorate (ED), who earlier investigated the high-profile Bhola drug case in Punjab, resigned from his service on Friday, citing personal reasons. He was to retire in 2021.
He tendered his resignation to Karnal Singh, the director of the central agency.
Niranjan had probed the high-profile Rs 6,000 crore drugs money laundering case in which former Punjab revenue minister Bikram Majithia was questioned.
During the investigation of the drug trafficking case, Niranjan was transferred from the Jalandhar Zonal Office to Kolkata in January 2015. The issue of his transfer reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court which eventually revoked his transfer.
Niranjan Singh was also the main investigating officer in a number of money laundering cases in Punjab during his six-year stint at the ED’s Jalandhar office.
