Pune: The investigation into the murder of Pune-based realtor Ketan Agarwal has taken a dramatic turn after police uncovered digital evidence suggesting that the prime accused, Siya Goyal, may have secretly married her alleged lover and co-accused Chetan Chaudhary nearly four months before the killing. Investigators are now verifying whether the marriage actually took place and if it was legally registered.
According to Pune Rural Police, the fresh lead emerged from an analysis of mobile phone chats exchanged between Goyal and Chaudhary. Officials said the conversations indicate that the two may have been secretly married, although the claim is yet to be officially confirmed. Police are examining digital records and other evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
Siya Goyal (20) and Chetan Chaudhary (22) are accused of murdering 25-year-old Ketan Agarwal, who was engaged to Goyal and was scheduled to marry her in November this year. Police allege the duo pushed Agarwal off a cliff at Lohagad Fort in Pune district on June 18, after allegedly plotting the murder because he had become an obstacle to their relationship. Investigators claim the accused rehearsed the crime before carrying it out.
Both accused are currently in judicial custody after a Pune court rejected the prosecution’s request for extended police custody. Authorities are continuing to analyse mobile phone data, chat records and other electronic evidence to establish the motive and determine whether additional individuals were involved in the alleged conspiracy.
The suspected secret marriage has added a new dimension to the high-profile murder investigation, with police saying the claim is still under verification and that further findings will depend on forensic and documentary evidence collected during the probe.
