Mumbai: Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran has revealed why he has stopped performing high-risk action sequences on his own, saying a serious injury suffered during a film shoot in 2023 changed his perspective on stunt work. The actor disclosed that he now has three titanium screws in his left leg following multiple surgeries.
Speaking about his upcoming film ‘I, Nobody’, Prithviraj said he had built a reputation for performing his own stunts but reconsidered that approach after sustaining a complex knee injury during the filming of another project in 2023. The injury required three surgeries and forced the production to be halted for nearly a year, resulting in financial losses and delays for the entire team.
The actor said the incident made him realise the responsibility he carries towards producers, crew members and everyone associated with a film. He added that while he still enjoys shooting action scenes, he is now much more cautious about taking unnecessary risks on set.
Prithviraj also recalled another incident during the filming of ‘I, Nobody’, where a stunt performer suffered a serious neck injury and required 37 stitches. The accident reinforced his belief that action sequences can be dangerous and that safety should always come first.
Despite his injury, Prithviraj said he remains passionate about action films and praised the stunt team behind ‘I, Nobody’ for designing realistic sequences while maintaining high safety standards. The film, directed by Nissam Basheer, was released in theatres on July 9.
