Political leaders pay tribute to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary

President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress party paid tribute to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first prime minister, on the occasion of his birth anniversary.

Paying homage to Pandit Nehru, President Ram Nath Kovind said, “Remembering Shri Jawaharlal Nehru, our first Prime Minister, on his birth anniversary.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalled the contribution of Pandit Nehru for Country’s freedom.

“Remembering our first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary. We recall his contribution to our freedom struggle and during his tenure as Prime Minister,” Prime Minister tweeted.

Paying homage to ‘India’s first and the longest serving Prime Minister, Congress party took to its twitter account and tweeted, “India’s first and the longest serving Prime Minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru dedicated his life to the nation. He laid the foundations of strong democratic institutions which shaped our modern day democracy. Today we honour the man & the legacy.”

“Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru was a visionary, an architect of modern India & a strong believer in the light of India’s future – aptly embodied in his love for children. It is this love we celebrate today & his legacy we honour,” Congress added.

Born on November 14, 1889, Pandit Nehru was among the central figures in Indian politics before and after independence.

Nehru was known as Chacha Nehru among children. His birth anniversary is celebrated as Children’s Day across India.
