New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 57th Convocation Ceremony of IIT Delhi on Saturday, urging graduating students to place national interest at the centre of their decisions and contribute to building a Viksit Bharat. He emphasized that the next three decades would define India’s future and called on young innovators to lead the country’s growth through research, innovation and emerging technologies.
Addressing over 3,000 graduating students, including 587 Ph.D. scholars, the Prime Minister said every generation has its own responsibilities, and today’s graduates have a unique opportunity to shape India’s development journey. He encouraged students to remain curious, continue learning throughout life, and adapt to rapidly evolving technologies rather than comparing themselves with others.
Highlighting India’s technological ambitions, PM Modi inaugurated ‘Param Pragya’, an AI-powered high-performance supercomputing facility at IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus. The new facility is expected to strengthen research in artificial intelligence, advanced computing, data science, and interdisciplinary innovation, further enhancing India’s capabilities in cutting-edge technologies.
The Prime Minister also presented the institute’s highest honours, including the President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal, and Perfect Ten Gold Medals to outstanding students. However, he expressed disappointment over the low number of women among the medal recipients, saying he wished there had been more female achievers and stressing the need for greater participation of women in academic excellence.
During his address, PM Modi pointed to India’s growing opportunities in sectors such as semiconductors, space, drones, artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing, saying the country’s push for self-reliance is creating new avenues for young professionals. He urged graduates to use their knowledge and skills to solve national challenges and contribute meaningfully to society.
