Prime Minister Narendra Modi, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi and several other political leaders paid tribute to former prime minister Indira Gandhi on her 101st birth anniversary on Monday.
“Tributes to India’s former Prime Minister, Mrs Indira Gandhi Ji on her birth anniversary,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted.
UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi along with former president Pranab Mukherjee, former vice president Hamid Ansari and former prime minister Manmohan Singh paid tribute to Indira Gandhi at Shakti Sthal in New Delhi.
Indira Gandhi was born on November 19, 1917 in Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad, also known as the Iron Lady of India.
She served as Prime Minister from January 1966 to March 1977 and again from January 1980 until her assassination in October 1984, making her the second longest-serving Indian Prime Minister after her father Jawaharlal Nehru.
