Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Melbourne, Australia, on Wednesday for a three-day official visit, the second leg of his three-nation tour, after concluding his visit to Indonesia. He was accorded a ceremonial welcome on arrival and was greeted by senior Australian leaders and members of the Indian diaspora.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will hold bilateral talks with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as part of the Annual India-Australia Leaders’ Summit. The two leaders are expected to review the progress of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and discuss ways to deepen cooperation in trade, defence, critical minerals, clean energy, education, technology, maritime security and the Indo-Pacific.
Apart from official engagements, PM Modi is scheduled to interact with the Indian diaspora at a community event in Melbourne. He is also expected to meet leading Australian business executives to explore opportunities for greater investment and economic collaboration between the two countries.
The Australia visit follows PM Modi’s successful trip to Indonesia, where he held bilateral talks with President Prabowo Subianto and was conferred the country’s highest civilian honour, Bintang Adipurna. His ongoing three-nation tour also includes a visit to New Zealand, reflecting India’s continued focus on strengthening ties across the Indo-Pacific region.
The visit is expected to further reinforce the India-Australia strategic partnership, with both countries aiming to expand cooperation across economic, security and people-to-people ties while addressing regional and global challenges.
