Members of Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs met J&K CM Omar Abdullah in Srinagar on Tuesday.

A Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, led by MP Dr Shashi Tharoor, is on a four-day study visit to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to review border security, foreign policy concerns and development in frontier regions.
On Tuesday, the 13-member panel met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in Srinagar, where it was briefed on its earlier visits to border areas in Jammu, the Regional Passport Office, and interactions with Army officials. The LG highlighted socio-economic changes in the region over the past six years, noting improvements in security and infrastructure development.
Later, the committee met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at Dachigam National Park. The Chief Minister welcomed the visit, stressing the importance of parliamentary engagement to understand local aspirations and development needs, especially in border areas. He called for stronger focus on infrastructure, connectivity and livelihood opportunities.
The committee is also examining issues related to cross-border terrorism along the LoC and IB, developments along the LAC in Ladakh, and India’s broader foreign policy challenges. It will continue its tour across Jammu, Srinagar, Kargil and Leh, meeting officials and residents in forward areas.
