New Delhi: The Monsoon Session of Parliament concluded on Thursday, August 13, with both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha being adjourned sine die, bringing an end to a stormy session marked by repeated disruptions, political confrontations and sharp exchanges between the government and the Opposition.
The session, which began on July 20, witnessed frequent adjournments over issues including the student protests, alleged irregularities in public examinations, and the controversy surrounding donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Opposition parties repeatedly demanded discussions and statements from the government, while the ruling side accused the Opposition of disrupting House proceedings.
On the final day, the Lok Sabha was adjourned shortly after proceedings commenced following continued sloganeering by Opposition members. Before the adjournment, all six stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’ were played in the House, with Members of Parliament, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and leaders from the Opposition, standing in respect.
The Rajya Sabha also witnessed noisy scenes before it was adjourned sine die. Despite the disruptions, the Upper House passed the Mines and Minerals (Amendment) Bill by voice vote. Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan later highlighted the House’s work during the session before formally ending the proceedings.
Despite persistent disruptions, Parliament completed significant legislative business during the session. According to official figures, 11 Bills were passed by both Houses, while 12 Bills were introduced, reflecting the government’s legislative agenda despite the political deadlock.
