Just a day before the release of by Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bollywood film Padmaavat, vandalism and violent protests have been reported from several parts of the country.
According to reports, Mumbai Police have reportedly detained more than 35 Rajput-dominated Karni Sena supporters, protesting against the release of Padmaavat.
Some incidents of protesters blocking the Delhi-Jaipur highway and Gurgaon’s Wazirpur-Pataudi road have also been reported.
Due to fear of vandalism and violence, Gujarat theatre owners have reportedly refused to screen the film.
Ahead of Padmaavat’s release, security has been tightened in several states including Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
Delhi Police have also made detailed arrangements to prevent any unwanted incidents during the release of the movie.
The Supreme Court had earlier directed the state governments to ensure law and order during the release of Padmaavat.
