Over 57,000 Covid-19 cases in 24 hours takes India’s tally to nearly 17 lakh

India has reported 57,117 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The total tally of COVID-19 infections in the country now stands at 16,95,988.

A total of 36,511 coronavirus patients have lost their lives.

There are 5,65,103 active cases while 10,94,374 people have been cured/discharged.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Saturday said a total of 1,93,58,659 samples have been tested up to July 31 of which 5,25,689 samples were tested yesterday.

On Wednesday, Ministry of Home Affairs had announced the guidelines for unlock 3 which came into effect from Saturday.

Major points of the guidelines

Yoga institutes & gymnasiums to open from August 5

No night curfew

Schools, colleges, etc to remain closed till August 31

Independence Day functions allowed with social distancing

Metros, cinema halls, swimming pools, entertainment parks, bars, assembly halls and similar places to remain closed

Lockdown remains in place across all containment zones, the extent of which will be decided by States/UTs

Globally, the virus has killed over 6,50,000 people and infected more than 17.5 million since it emerged in China last December.
