Shimla: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Sirmaur districts of Himachal Pradesh, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours as monsoon activity intensifies across the state.
According to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), continuous rainfall has disrupted normal life, with more than 100 roads blocked due to landslides and debris. Several electricity distribution transformers and water supply schemes have also been affected, prompting restoration efforts by the concerned departments.
The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has advised people living in vulnerable areas to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from rivers and streams, and remain alert for possible landslides, flash floods and falling rocks in hilly regions. Authorities have also asked tourists to follow official weather advisories before planning travel.
State disaster management teams, district administrations and emergency response agencies have been placed on high alert to deal with any weather-related emergencies. Officials are closely monitoring the situation and have urged residents to immediately report incidents of road blockages, flooding or landslides to local authorities.
The IMD has indicated that monsoon activity is likely to remain active over Himachal Pradesh in the coming days, with intermittent heavy rainfall expected in several districts. Residents have been advised to stay updated through official weather bulletins and follow safety instructions issued by the administration.
