Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad asserted that a free judicial system is essential for democracy while delivering a lecture on July 16 at an event at Indian Society of International Law.
“A free judicial system is essential for democracy. It is the duty of the government to give assistance and infrastructure but the obligation to run the judicial system must rest only and only with the judiciary,” minister added.
Minister also said that there should be accountability in the judiciary, something which would help judges find out whether the system is in order.
He said, “If there is a need for accountability in all forms of government, then, there is also a need for considering the possibility of accountability among the judiciary as to how the system is working, do we need to expedite it, do we need to explore extra avenues”.
