Delhi Congress chief Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday announced that the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will not enter into an alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The decision was taken in a meeting of the Delhi Congress leaders with Congress chief Rahul Gandhi.
“A unanimous decision was taken that there will be no alliance in Delhi,” said Sheila Dikshit.
This announcement puts end to the weeks of speculations of an alliance between Congress and AAP in Delhi.
Last month, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said that they had tried to convince the Congress for an alliance, but their offer had been refused.
AAP, last week declared candidates for six of Delhi’s seven Lok Sabha seats, giving up on the possibility of an alliance with the Congress. However, the party was open for negotiations and had several seat sharing formulas ready, sources said.
