New Delhi: The Centre has revised passport application fees across categories, with the new rates set to come into effect from July 1, 2026. The revised fee structure has been notified through amendments to the Passports Rules, 1980, marking the first major revision in passport charges in over a decade.
Under the new rates, an ordinary fresh passport or reissue of a 36-page passport for applicants aged 18 years and above will cost ₹2,500 under the normal category, up from the existing ₹1,500. The corresponding Tatkal fee has been fixed at ₹5,000. For a 60-page passport, the normal fee has been increased to ₹3,500, while the Tatkal charge will now be ₹6,000.
The revised fee structure also covers minors, replacement of lost or damaged passports, police clearance certificates and other travel documents. For applicants below the age of 18, a fresh or reissued 36-page passport will cost ₹1,750 under the normal category, while the Tatkal fee has been fixed at ₹4,250.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the changes have been introduced through amendments to the Passports Rules, 1980. Officials said the revised rates will apply to all applications submitted on or after July 1, 2026.
The government has also significantly increased the charges for replacing lost or damaged passports. A replacement 36-page passport under the normal category will now cost ₹5,000, while the Tatkal fee for the same category has been fixed at ₹7,500. Reissue of a lost or damaged 60-page passport under Tatkal will cost as much as ₹8,500.
Citizens planning to apply for a fresh passport, renewal or Tatkal service have been advised to check the updated fee schedule on the official Passport Seva portal before submitting their applications.
