A bridge in Bishnupur in Gumla district was blown up by Naxals on Saturday morning, hours after voting began for the first phase of Jharkhand assembly elections.
However, no injuries have been reported in the incident, an official said.
Chief Minister of Jharkhand Raghubar Das today appealed to all people to make a record by voting in large numbers.
“Today is the first phase of Jharkhand assembly election. Appeal to all of you to make a record by voting in large numbers. Your one vote is very important in the development journey of Jharkhand,” Raghubar Das tweeted.
The first of the five-phase polling for the Jharkhand Assembly election began today.
Thirteen constituencies in six districts of Jharkhand will go to polls in the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly election.
The voting began at 7 am and conclude at 3 pm, Election Commission officials said.
A total of 37,83,055 electorate, including 18,01,356 women and five third gender voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in the first phase.
The fate of 189 candidates will be decided in the first phase of polling.
The Jharkhand Assembly polls, which is spread over 5 phases, will conclude on December 20 and the counting of votes is scheduled on December 23.
