Schools in Mumbai were shut on Wednesday as heavy overnight rain caused water-logging in several parts of the city. Incessant rains led to flooding in many areas.
“In wake of IMD’s warning of heavy rainfall for the rest of the day too, the schools shall remain closed today. The Principals of the schools where students are already in, are requested to take all precautions and ensure that the children are sent back home carefully and safely (sic),” the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said in a tweet.
The IMD has issued an ‘Orange alert’ for Mumbai and Thane for Wednesday.
In a tweet, the Western Railway said that the suburban services of WR were running without any disruption. However, reports suggested that some trains were running late by a few minutes.
Mumbai police earlier in a tweet had said, “The IMD authorities have indicated high rainfall weather for Mumbai and other adjoining districts for the next 2 days. Please take adequate precautions and ensure safety. #Dial100 in case of an emergency. Take care Mumbai.”
