Mumbai on edge as Maratha protesters call for state wide bandh

Maratha Kranti morcha and other Maratha groups seeking reservation for the community called for bandh in Mumbai on Wednesday. Maratha protesters are seeking 16% reservation in Government jobs and education in Maharashtra and are also agitating against the death of a Maratha youth in Aurangabad.

Tight Security arrangements are in place in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis appealed for peace and assured that the government is serious about a resolution.

On Tuesday, one constable died and nine other policemen were injured during a large scale state-wide protest in Maharashtra, marred by violence. Many incidents of arson were reported from several parts of the state, causing damage to public property.

To prevent any untoward incident, Internet services were suspended in Aurangabad disctrict.
