More Than 100 Feared Dead In A Plane Crash Near Havana Airport

More than 100 people died after a Cubana de Aviacion Boeing 737 airliner with 104 people on board crashed and exploded near Havana’s Jose Marti International Airport, according to Cuba’s state-media.

Three people have survived the crash but are in critical condition in hospital.

The plane came down shortly after take-off, crashing in an agricultural area in the Santiago de las Vegas neighborhood near the airport.

“There has been an unfortunate aviation accident. The news is not very promising, it seems that there is a high number of victims,” Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel was quoted as saying.

According to state media, it was an internal flight from the Cuban capital to the city of Holguin, about 500 miles in the east of the island.
