More than 100 lives were lost and several injured in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh due to heavy thunderstorms and lightning over the past two days.
As per the Disaster Management department, 83 people lost their lives since wednesday in Bihar due to lightning strikes. Whereas, 24 people died in Uttar Pradesh after being struck by lightning on Thursday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday condoled the loss of lives due to heavy rain and lightning.
PM Modi in a tweet said, “There was a sad news of death of many people due to heavy rains and lightning strikes in some districts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The state governments are busy in relief efforts. I express my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this disaster.”
