West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee on Friday cancelled her political rallies for next 48 hours in view of cyclone Fani that has made a landfall in Odisha’s Puri today. She has requested people to stay safe and alert during the storm.
As per the reports, Banerjee will be in Kharagpur, near the coastal belt and personally monitor the situation.
“Have cancelled my rallies for the next 48 hours because of what could be an impending disaster #CyclonicStormFANI We are monitoring the situation 24×7 and doing all it takes. I appeal to all people to cooperate. Be alert, take care and stay safe for the next two days,” Banerjee tweeted.
Flights will not take off or land at Kolkata airport from 3 pm today to 8 am tomorrow.
Teams of NDRF and ODRAF have been put in place.
The severe cyclonic storm Fani made a landfall in Odisha’s coast with a wind speed of over 175 kmph today morning.
