BJP MLA from Ghatkopar, Ram Kadam on Thursday met Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari over the arrest of Republic TV Editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami.
Ram Kadam demanded the immediate release of Arnab Goswami and sought action against nine policemen, who arrested and misbehaved with him.
Ram Kadam also said that he will hold a hunger strike in retaliation against the arrest and to protect the fourth pillar of democracy.
Taking to the microblogging site, Ram Kadam in a tweet said, “In retaliation against the arrest of #ArnabGoswami & to protect the fourth pillar of our democracy, I will be holding a hunger strike outside Mantralaya tomorrow. I urge #MVA Govt to immediately withdraw all the cases against Arnab and his family.”
“Govt should also apologise for the physical assaults on #ArnabGoswami & immediately suspend those police officers. and ensure democracy’s fourth pillar is given its due respec,” Kadam added.
Arnab Goswami was arrested on Wednesday by Mumbai Police in connection with an old abetment to suicide case.
He was arrested for allegedly abetting suicide of a 53-year-old interior designer and his mother in 2018.
According to the reports, Goswami claimed that he was manhandled and assaulted by Mumbai police while trying to arrest him.
Several ministers have condemned the arrest. Union Minister for Information and Broadcast Prakash Javadekar said the incident is a reminder of the “emergency days.”
