Kumaraswamy Oath Ceremony: A Platform For Opposition To Show Strength And Unity

JD(S) legislative party leader H D Kumaraswamy on Wednesday took oath as the 24th Chief Minister of Karnataka in Bengaluru’s Vidhan Soudha, while G Parameshwara of Congress took oath as Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka.


Several Chief Ministers of other states and well known opposition leaders on Wednesday attended the oath ceremony and used it as a “platform to show strength and unity” against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, TMC chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, BSP Chief Mayawati, Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, CPI(M)’s Sitaram Yechury, NCP’s Sharad Pawar, SP’s Akhilesh Yadav, among others, attended the swearing-in ceremony.

After taking the oath, Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy said, “Leaders who came from all over the country wanted to give a message to the nation that we are one & in 2019 there will be a major change in political situation. They were not here to protect this govt; this govt will be protected by local Congress leaders & our leaders.”

“This coalition government will run better than any one party govt and we will concentrate on working for the public. We have decided to work together for the betterment of the state,” Kumaraswamy added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday evening congratulated HD Kumaraswamy and Dr. G Parameshwara on taking oath as CM and Deputy CM of Karnataka.
