At least three people were killed and several others injured on Thursday in a knife attack at a church in the French city of Nice, the officials said.
A man wielding a knife shouting “Allahu Akbar” beheaded a woman and killed two other people in a suspected terrorist incident.
Nice’s mayor, Christian Estrosi described the attack as terrorism and said the incident took place in or near Notre Dame church, the largest in the city.
Estrosi said the attacker had repeatedly shouted the ‘Allahu Akbar’ (God is greatest), even after being detained by police.
The mayor said one of those killed was the caretaker at the basilica.
According to the Police, three people were confirmed to have died in the attack and several were injured. A woman was decapitated, police source said.
The attacker was shot by police while being detained, ‘he is alive’, reports said.
It was not immediately known what the motive was for the Nice attack.
