Kashmiri Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Shah Faesal, who topped the 2010 civil services exam, has quit IAS to enter politics ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
“To protest the unabated killings in Kashmir and absence of any credible political initiative from Union Government, I have decided to resign from IAS. Kashmiri lives matter. I will be addressing a press-conference on Friday,” Faesal tweeted.
According to the sources, Faesal was likely to join the National Conference from Baramulla constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
National Conference Vice President and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has welcomed Shah Faesal for quitting bureaucracy and tending to join politics.
“The bureaucracy’s loss is politics’ gain. Welcome to the fold @shahfaesal,” Abdullah tweeted.
Faesal recently returned to India after completing his Fulbright fellowship at the Harvard Kennedy School in US.
