The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) on Wednesday announced a two-week summer vacation for all government and recognised private schools up to the higher secondary level in view of the prevailing heatwave across the Valley.
According to an official order, schools will remain closed from July 6 to July 19, with regular academic activities set to resume on July 20.
The decision comes amid soaring temperatures that have gripped Kashmir over the past several days, prompting widespread concern among parents and students over classroom conditions.
The unusually high temperatures had triggered growing demands for an early summer break, with many parents urging authorities to suspend classes to safeguard students’ health and well-being.
The summer vacation will apply to all government and recognised private schools up to the higher secondary level across the Kashmir Valley.
Officials said the decision was taken keeping in view the welfare and safety of schoolchildren as the region continues to experience an intense spell of heat, with daytime temperatures remaining well above normal for this time of the year.
Schools are scheduled to reopen on July 20, when regular classes will resume following the two-week break.
