The peace initiative which was announced by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh during the month of Ramadan is expected to end with EID.
The government has decided that anti-terrorist operations, which were suspended, will be resumed in Kashmir valley after EID, according to reports.
National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval indicated that the offer was only till Eid.
“We wanted to give respite to the common man in the Valley during Ramzan, so they can observe the holy month peacefully. And during Ramadan we stuck to our stance. The people there are happy and the purpose is served,” NSA Doval said.
Home Ministry Data indicates a rise in terror-related incidents in Kashmir valley by more than 100 percent during Ramadan ceasefire. During Ramadan 62 terror-related incidents initiated by terrorists, 22 cases of grenade attacks, seven cases of attacks on civilians and 23 cases of indiscriminate gunfire by terrorists were reported in the valley.
A senior intel officer said, “We had suspended cordon and search operations till Eid. Why should the government announce anything now, so after Eid “ceasefire” would just lapse.”
He also added that they will provide a detailed presentation before the minister regarding the rise of terror-related incidents. “Facts are sacrosanct. Assessments can vary, so he can judge by himself.”
