JNU Students stage protest over fee hike

Hundreds of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students on Monday clashed with the Delhi Police in campus over recent fee hike.

Students have blocked the gates and not permitting the HRD Minister to leave the premises till their demands are not met.

The protest, which has entered its third week has spilled on to the streets today.

The University Students’ Union today morning wanted to march to the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE building where Vice President Venkaiah Naidu was addressing the convocation ceremony. However, they were stopped by police.

Barricades were placed outside the north and west gates of the JNU campus.

But students broke these barriers and marched towards the venue in morning. Police have also detained some of the protesters, sources said.

According to the students’ union the strike would not end until the hostel manual is withdrawn.
