New Delhi: India strongly pushed back against Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), reiterating that Jammu and Kashmir “was, is and will always remain” an integral part of India. The response came after Pakistan raised the Kashmir issue during a UN discussion, prompting a sharp rebuttal from the Indian delegation.
Addressing the assembly, India’s representative accused Pakistan of repeatedly misusing international forums to advance its political agenda and spread misinformation on matters related to Jammu and Kashmir. India maintained that no amount of rhetoric could alter the reality that Jammu and Kashmir is an inalienable part of the country.
The Indian side also highlighted Pakistan’s continued attempts to internationalise the Kashmir issue despite New Delhi’s consistent position that the matter is internal to India. Officials stressed that democratic processes in Jammu and Kashmir remain robust, pointing to recent electoral participation in the Union Territory as evidence of public engagement in governance.
During its response, India further criticised Pakistan for using UN platforms to pursue political objectives rather than focusing on pressing global concerns. The Indian delegation reiterated that repeated references to Jammu and Kashmir do not change facts on the ground and urged Pakistan to refrain from making what it described as misleading statements.
The latest exchange reflects the continuing diplomatic tensions between the two neighbours over Jammu and Kashmir. India has consistently rejected comments by Pakistan and other external actors on the issue, maintaining that the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are integral and inalienable parts of the country.
The remarks mark another chapter in the long-running diplomatic sparring between New Delhi and Islamabad at international forums, where Kashmir remains one of the most contentious issues in bilateral relations.
