Governor Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday offered apology to the people for the inconvenience caused to them due to civilian traffic ban on Jammu-Srinagar highway. He, however, said the decision was taken in the national interest.
“I apologise to the public for the inconvenience faced by them as a result of the restrictions on the movement on national highway but the ban was imposed in national interest,” the Governor said while talking to journalists during the inauguration of second phase of a flyover in Srinagar.
Earlier J&K Government had imposed a ban on the civilian movement on the national highway for two days a week – Wednesday and Sunday. The step was taken after 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men were killed in a suicide attack on highway in Pulwama.
But on Tuesday, the government lifted the ban completely on the civilian movement on the highway.
Talking about the Assembly elections in the statr, the governor said that it was for the election commission to take a call about its timing.
