Ranchi: The agitation by aspirants of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) entered its 16th day on Sunday, with the state government holding another round of talks as pressure mounted to resolve the recruitment exam controversy.
The protests began over allegations of irregularities in recruitment examinations and demands for greater transparency in the selection process. Protesters have sought the cancellation of the 14th JPSC Preliminary Examination, a CBI probe into recruitment-related irregularities, and the implementation of key reforms recommended by student organisations.
The movement has also been marked by a hunger strike led by student leader Devendra Nath Mahto, whose health has reportedly deteriorated after several days without food. Medical teams have been monitoring his condition as concerns grow over the prolonged fast.
Addressing the issue, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren assured students that the government was committed to delivering justice and ensuring complete transparency. He said those found responsible for any wrongdoing would face strict action and appealed to students to resolve the issue through dialogue rather than allowing the movement to be politicised.
According to officials, multiple rounds of negotiations have already taken place between government representatives and student leaders. With earlier discussions failing to produce a breakthrough, a fresh round of talks was initiated in an effort to find a mutually acceptable solution.
Meanwhile, student groups have warned that if their demands remain unmet, they will intensify the agitation with larger demonstrations in the coming days. Despite the ongoing dialogue, protesters have maintained that they will continue their movement until concrete decisions are announced.
