Three militants were killed and a jawan was martyred in a gunfight which broke out on Saturday between militants and security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
The security forces launched a cordon and search operation at Sirnoo village in Pulwama district of south Kashmir after receiving specific information about the presence of militants in the area, the official said.
“As the forces were conducting searches, the militants opened fire on them. The forces retaliated, leading to an encounter,” the official added.
According to reports, intense clashes broke out between the security forces and civilians near the encounter site which left seven civilians dead and many injured.
