Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday imposed restrictions in areas of Srinagar to prevent Muharram processions.
Restriction have been imposed in Shaheed Gunj, Batmaloo, Sher Gari, Karan Nagar, Kothibagh, Maisuma, Kral Khud, R M Bagh and Nehru Park,” police said.
According to officials, the restrictions were preventive in nature and have been imposed to maintain law and order.
“All schools and colleges in the city to remain closed for the day,” ordered by Srinagar District Magistrate.
A large number of CRPF and police personnel have been positioned in the entire city.
From 1989, authorities have not allowed any 8th and 10th Muharram processions in Srinagar.
