Jammu and Kashmir: Pulwama attack mastermind believed to be killed in encounter

The mastermind of the February 14 Pulwama terror attack that killed at least 40 CRPF personnel is believed to have been killed in an encounter in the Tral area of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Monday.

According to the officials, the encounter which began on Sunday lasted till past midnight in which one of the three slain militants has been identified as Mudasir Khan, alias Mohammad Bhai.

Jammu and Kashmir police tweeted on Sunday night, “#Tral #encounter update: So far dead bodies of two #terrorists affiliated with proscribed #terror outfit #JeM retrieved from the site of encounter. #Incriminatingmaterials including arms & ammunition recovered. Searches still in progress. Further details shall follow.”

According to the sources, three terrorists were killed. However, the police have recovered only two bodies so far.

The security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Pinglish after receiving specific inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area.

The operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists opened fire at the search party of the forces who retaliated.

The JeM had claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing in Pulwama.
