A gunfight is underway between the security forces and militants at Soothu, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Nowgam district in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.
According to the reports the exchange of fire is going on since 2 AM on the outskirts of Srinagar.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation after receiving specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
As per the latest report, two militants were gunned down by security forces in an exchange of fire and their bodies have also been recovered.
Jammu and Kashmir Police tweeted, “In reference to Nowgam encounter, citizens are requested not to enter the encounter site as such an area can prove dangerous due to uncleared explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitised.”
Internet services have been suspended in the area as a precautionary measure.
This comes just a day after an explosion had occurred inside the Indian Army camp in Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
