US President Donald Trump on Thursday said that he will allow two weeks for diplomacy to proceed before deciding whether to launch a strike in Iran and get directly involved in its conflict with Israel. There is a “substantial chance” for renewed negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear programme, he also said, according to reports.
Notably, a powerful Iran-backed militia in Iraq has vowed to attack US military bases in the region if Trump decides to enter the conflict, if that is a reason behind the step-back, remains to be seen
As Trump mulls his next move, the flight of America’s ‘doomsday planes’ to Joint Base Andrews in Washington on Tuesday night generated a whole lot of speculation.
Dubbed as ‘doomsday plane’, the Boeing E-4B Nightwatch is the US military’s most secretive aircraft. It serves as an airborne military command center capable of operating through nuclear war or national catastrophe.
The mission stood out because of its unexpected route and callsign, resulting in substantial buzz amid mounting tensions in the Middle East.
Some dismissed it as a routine flight, saying that E-4Bs frequently fly to maintain readiness. However, in politics, moves are often made for the sake of optics and sending a message. Was the flight one such move, also remains to be seen.
