INX Media Case: ED arrests P Chidambaram after questioning at Tihar Jail

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday arrested former Union finance minister P Chidambaram in Tihar Jail in the INX Media foreign funding case, officials said.

ED sleuths reached Tihar Jail today morning to question the Congress leader after court on Tuesday allowed the central agency to interrogate Chidambaram in this case.

The central agency will be moving court to seek Chidambaram’s fresh custody, officials said.   

Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambaram and wife Nalini Chidambaram were also seen in the Tihar jail premises this morning.

The former finance minister has spent over 50 days in CBI and judicial custody till now.

The ED has filed a criminal case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to probe alleged irregularities in the grant of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval to the INX Media group.
