Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Tuesday conferred with Indonesia’s highest civilian honour, the ‘Bintang Adipurna’ (Star of the Republic of Indonesia) by President Prabowo Subianto during his two-day state visit to the Southeast Asian nation. The prestigious award recognises PM Modi’s contribution to strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Indonesia and advancing bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
Accepting the honour, Prime Minister Modi dedicated the award to the people of India and described it as a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two countries. He thanked the Indonesian government and its people, saying the recognition reflected the shared values and growing trust that define India-Indonesia relations.
Following the award ceremony, Prime Minister Modi held wide-ranging bilateral talks with President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. The two leaders reviewed the progress of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and discussed expanding cooperation in defence, maritime security, trade, investment, critical minerals, food security, healthcare, digital technology and education.
India and Indonesia also signed several agreements aimed at deepening strategic and economic ties. Among the key developments was the signing of a defence agreement involving the BrahMos missile system, alongside pacts on disaster management, critical minerals, steel supply chains, agriculture, healthcare collaboration and the restoration of Indonesia’s historic Prambanan Temple complex.
Prime Minister Modi said India and Indonesia, as two of the world’s largest democracies and important partners in the Indo-Pacific, are committed to enhancing regional peace, maritime security and economic prosperity. President Prabowo echoed the sentiment, calling for stronger cooperation to benefit both nations and the wider region.
The visit marks another milestone in India’s growing engagement with Southeast Asia and adds yet another prestigious international recognition to Prime Minister Modi’s diplomatic outreach.
