India’s COVID-19 cases rise to 8,78,254; Death toll at 23,174

The number of coronavirus cases in India have risen to 8,78,254 as it recorded 28,701 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. A total of 23,174 coronavirus patients have lost their lives, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday.

There are 3,01,609 active cases while 5,53,470 have been cured/discharged, according to Health Ministry data.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state in the country. The total number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 2,54,427 with 10,289 fatalities.

Tamil Nadu has the second highest COVID-19 cases – 1,38,470 with 1,966 deaths followed by Delhi – 1,12,494 and 3,371 deaths, Gujarat – 41,820 cases and 2,045 fatalities, Karnataka – 38,843 with 684 deaths and Uttar Pradesh – 36,476 cases and 934 deaths.

A total of 1,18,06,256 samples have been tested up to July 12 of which 2,19,103 samples were tested yesterday, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.
