India’s COVID-19 cases rise to 5,85,493; Death toll at 17,400

The number of coronavirus cases in India have risen to 5,85,493 as it recorded 18,653 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. A total of 17,400 coronavirus patients have lost their lives, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday.

There are 2,20,114 active cases while 3,47,978 have been cured/discharged, according to Health Ministry data.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state in the country. The total number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 1,74,761 with 7,855 fatalities.

Tamil Nadu has the second highest COVID-19 cases – 90,167 with 1,201 deaths followed by Delhi – 87,360 and 2,742 deaths, Gujarat – 32,557 cases and 1,846 fatalities and Uttar Pradesh – 23,492 cases and 697 deaths.

A total of 88,26,585 samples have been tested so far of which 2,17,931 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.
